Morristown West Running back Malachi Monroe announced Friday night that he has committed to Tusculum University, choosing the Pioneers over a handful of schools who have recently offered him.
The senior back gave us reasoning as to why he committed to Tusculum, highlighting that it is the place that will best present to him the opportunity to grow academically, athletically, and personally. Staying close to home was one of his biggest goals in his commitment process, and with the connection he grew with the coaching staff and players, along with the family atmosphere he felt, it was almost no doubt he’d become a Pioneer this offseason. Monroe hopes to represent his community well as he continues to chase his goals playing football at the next level.
During his career at Morristown West High School, Monroe established himself as a key offensive weapon at the running back position. In his senior season, he led the team and averaged 57.8 yards per game, also while tallying up 8 total rushing touchdowns, on top of averaging 5 points per game offensively. He consistently contributed in big moments, including scoring 5 rushing touchdowns in a single game against Cocke County Highschool. His ability to carry the workload and produce in the red zone with his strength and speed made him one of the top playmakers for the Trojans overall, and is one of the many reasons he is given the opportunity to play at the collegiate level.
