Day 1 of 2 of the 58th annual Volunteer Classic has officially begun at the University of Tennessee for high schools across the area. Morristown West, Jefferson County, and Lakeway Christian Academy all shined across the board to help their teams hopefully place high in the 75+ team meet.
Opening up early, the Morristown West Lady Trojans 800m SMR team placed 5th overall, with competitors Elysia Stafford (FR), Ellie Misenheimer (FR), Jennesey Allen (FR), and Payton Barnes (JR). This squad finished with a 2:01.80, tallying up 4 points to the teams total on day 1. Another highlight for the Trojans, William Roberts (SO) finished with a new PR in the 3200m Dash running a 10:25.17, chopping a whole 15 seconds off of his former PR, along with becoming victorious in his heat. Finally for the Trojans, long jumper Ladarion Rabion (SR) finished 4th overall out of 30 competitors, jumping a 44’ 4.75”. Rabion’s leap earned the Trojan’s 5 more points, helping out in a large way for the team's performance on Friday.
Morristown West wasn’t the only program who shined though, as Jefferson County’s Rex Churchwell (SR) finished his 3200m Dash with a 10:38.99, qualifying him for sectionals later this year. Another noticeable performance comes from Lakeway Christian Academy, with long distance sprinter Judah Graham (SR) setting a new PR with a 10:28.68 time in the 3200m Dash, as well as winning his heat.
This is only the beginning for the Lakeway Area at this meet, as an action-packed Saturday awaits us with many more events upcoming!
